Indian Institutes of TechnologyFrom Researching Virtual Initiatives in EducationOr did you mean Institute of Information Technology (IIT) in Vietnam?
The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) support blended and distance education among 7 autonomous engineering and technology-oriented institutes of higher education in India. The Indian Institutes of Technology were created to train scientists and engineers, with the aim of developing a skilled workforce to support the economic and social development of India after it became independent in 1947. See the NPTEL article for more information. IITs have become involved in OpenCourseWare movement , making thousands of lectures available on YouTube via the NPTEL channel. It "provides technical lectures from all seven Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore." Wikipedia states (September 2, 2009):
Undergraduate and postgraduate degrees are available.
More detailsAdmission to undergraduate programs in all IITs is tied to the Joint Entrance Examination, popularly known as IIT-JEE. IIT also has an affirmative action policy on caste-based reserved quotas. The various IITs function autonomously, and their special status as Institutes of National Importance facilitates the smooth running of IITs, virtually free from both regional as well as student politics. All the IITs provide on-campus residential facilities to the students, research scholars and faculty.
